Kurunagala is the main city in the Wayamba Province. You find almost all
the facilities here other than high end accommodation.
Ridigama Vihara
This ancient Buddhist temple is said to mark the site where silver ore
was discovered during the reign of King Dutugemunu in the 2nd century
B.C. Among the more notable landmarks here are an image house with Kandyan
period paintings and a few cave hermitages which many date back to an
earlier period.
Dambadeniya
One of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals.
Vijesundaramaya
A two storeyed temple containing a few Buddha images and some wall paintings
dating back to the 18th century.
Yapahuwa
Fortress of Buvanekabahu
You can reach Yapahuwa when you travel from Kurunegala to Anuradhapura
via Padeniya and turn from Daladagama Junction.
The ruins of a fortified palace believed to have been built by Buvanekabahu-I
in the 13th century. The palace built of stone is surrounded by ramparts
and two moats, with an ornamental stairway with some well preserved lions
leading to it.
