Pillikuttuea Temple
There are 99 caves within the forest, where the temple is located. The forest has rare plants, including many medicinal herbs. You have to turn from Mirriswatta Junction and travel along Watturugama Road to reach here.

You can also visit Maligatthenna Monastery and the Rocky Jungle in the same area. From the top of this rocky mountain you could enjoy the panoramic view of the western province.

Warana Temple
Located at Attanagalla, Pasgama where you can see the traditional craftsmen at work, and many hand made processes in Pasgama village. You have to turn from Pasyala junction to reach the spot.

Colombo- Kandy
Travelling from Colombo- Kandy is usually amidst heavy traffic unless you leave early morning. Still you can enjoy visiting many interesting places along the road.

Cadjugama.
Most of the travellers stop here for a sumptious treat of cadju nuts. There are hundreds of young women clad in attractive local attire selling cadjunuts along the road at their small stalls.

Pasgama
You can reach here from Pasyala junction. This place has created a typical environment of an old village of Sri Lanka. You can walk along for an authentic Sri Lankan meal at a restaurant there.

Pinnawala
You can visit Pinnawala elephant orphanage, turn left from 80-81 km Post – Kandy road.
There are many restaurants and the guest homes around Pinnawala.

Kadugannawa
Climbing Kadugannawa pass gives you a breathtaking view of the mountain range including Bible Rock, Lion Rock.

Kandy

A World Heritage City, Kandy is the capital of the Central Province. Sri Lanka’s most visited tourist destination, Kandy is in the middle of mountains and its beauty is enhanced by the lake Bogambara and the river Mahaveli, Parks and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.

Sri Dalada Maligawa, the temple of the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, is the main attraction.Its architecture, decorative walls, golden roof and fine wood work is vivid. Visitors can view the daily pooja (religious service) in the morning, mid-day and in the evening.

You can also visit the mementos of Kandy’s British colonial period of 133 years until 1948, including churches and the British Garrison Cemetery, which is well maintained.

National Museum
Situated behind the Temple of the Tooth, in a building of historical and architectural interest. The collections are all of the Kandyan Period (17th - 18th Century). Open daily from 0900 Hr. - 1700 Hrs. Admission: Adults Rs. 55. Children 30. Tel: 081 222 3867

Royal Palace
The Raja Maligawa or Royal Palace of the last King of Kandy, Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, is situated at the foot of the Udavattakele forest in the eastern corner of the city not far from the Temple of the Tooth. The palace consists of a long rectangular building with an impressive hall. Other ancillary buildings include the Meda Vasala or Queen’s Chamber situated to the South-East of the Palace and the Antahapura or harem situated behind the Dalada Maligawa.

Magul Maduwa
The Magul Maduwa or Royal Audience Hall is situated between the Royal Palace and the Temple of the Tooth. This structure which consists of a heavy timber framed roof supported by 64 intricately carved timber columns is said to have been designed by the Royal Architect Devandra Mulacharya during the reign of King Rajadhi Rajasinha and completed by his successor Sri Vikrama Rajasinha.

Natha Devale
The oldest extant structure in Kandy, it is said to have been built by King Vikramabahu-III in the 14th century. The temple is dedicated to a deity named Natha said to have his origins in a Mahayana Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara Natha. This stone built structure contains a gedige or vaulted roof and a garbhagrha or inner sanctum which houses a bronze icon of Natha.

Malwatte Mahavihara
The headquarters of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siam Nikaya. It is situated on the Southern Bank of Kandy Lake and contains many monasteries grouped around a Poyage or Chapter House used for Upasampada or higher ordination ceremonies.

Asgiriya Vihara
The headquarters of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siam Nikaya. It is situated near the royal burial grounds with numerous residences for monks built around a central chapter house. Also found in the vicinity is the Vijesundarama Monastery which comprises of a chapter house and two image houses adorned with murals of the Kandyan period.

Lankatilaka Vihara
An image house built solely of brick said to belong to the Gampola period. Situated on a hill top the temple houses a large image of the Buddha and is adorned with murals.

Gadaladeniya Temple
A largely stone temple built on a rock. It is characterized by a stupa-like brick structure on an octagonal base with a moonstone at the entrance, lacquered door and numerous carvings and frescoes.

Embakke Devale
Built by King Vikramabahu-III of Gampola in the 14th century, the Devale is principally dedicated to Skanda or Kataragama Deviyo. It is renowned for its numerous carvings of human figures, fabulous animals and floral motifs.

Orabi Pasha Museum
A museum dedicated to the life and times of Orabi Pasha, the famous Egyptian nationalist who was exiled to Sri Lanka by the British in 1883. Most of the exhibits are paintings depicting various scenes from the life of Orabi, including the El-Kassasen battle of 1882.

Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
(The Royal Botanic Garden)
Just 6 km from the Kandy town. The largest in Sri Lanka, its extent is 57 hectares. One boundary is the Mahaveli River, the island’s longest. This garden had been laid out in 1832. Its treasures consist of tropical flora and a fine collection of orchids, roses, medical herbs and palms.

Esala Perahera
The annual Esala Perahera is held in July – August to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha and obtain blessings for the country.

The Perahera is conducted for 10 days between July and August. The main perahera is on the last day and it’s on Nikini full moon Poya day. The Esala Perahera consists of five peraheras which are from four Devalas – Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama, Pattini - and the most splendid of all, from the Dalada Maligawa. Thousands of Kandyan dancers dance to the beat of thousands of drummers, and more or less eighty decorated elephants are in the procession. The Esala Perahera is the most spectacular pageant in Asia.
