The second biggest town in the East. You have to cross the lagoon to enter the town along a causeway and a bridge. Batticaloa town offers you many facilities, including good private hospitals. The Dutch Fort in Batti, built in 1682, is still very formidable. The Fort is occupied by armed forces. You can walk into the Fort. It is small but much nicer than that at Trinco.

Kalkudah and Pasikudah
Long white sand beaches which attracted many tourists about 20 years ago. It's a famous swimming point, 30 km from Batticaloa and 6 km from Valachchanai.
